What you'll do

• Drive design system projects end‑to‑end—from technical design and implementation through launch and steady‑state operations—and onboard, mentor, and uplift contributors and maintainers

• Build high‑performing, reusable UI foundations (tokens, components, patterns) that are fast, accessible, testable, and scalable

• Plan, design, and ship platform capabilities (theming, styling standards, ESLint rules, codemods, AI‑assisted scaffolding/codegen) that raise quality and consistency at scale for nearly every frontend engineer at Atlassian.

• Collaborate closely with engineers, designers, and platform leads to turn pain points into ergonomic system APIs, guidelines, and tooling for internal teams and ecosystem partners

• Lead cross‑org migrations, upgrades, and deprecations with clear governance—RFCs, versioning, release notes, guardrails—and take on complex, cross‑repo fixes

• Instrument adoption, performance, and quality with analytics, and use insights to drive compliance and continuous improvement across products

Your background

• Ideally, you’ve worked in design systems and applied AI before.

• Experience with Javascript (ES6), HTML5, CSS and experience with modern Javascript frameworks (e.g., React, AngularJS, Vue).

• Bachelor's or Master's degree (preferably a Computer Science degree or equivalent experience).

• Understanding of modern frontend ecosystem, including but not limited to bundling, linting, testing and releasing.

• Extensive experience with modern testing frameworks (e.g., Jest, Cypress, Mocha, Chai).

• Strong comfortability with the JavaScript language and ecosystem.

• Experience building frontend applications at scale.

• Experience in Agile software development methodologies.

• You strive to write code that lasts for years, not months.

• Experience engineering software systems of medium-to-large scope and complexity.

• Experience mentoring more junior engineers.
