As a Senior Engineering Manager - Data Platform, you’ll lead a team of highly skilled engineers working on core data platform, infrastructure and services that power analytics, insights, and data-driven decision making across Atlassian.

In this role, you will:

  • Lead and grow a high-performing team of engineers working on critical data platform components.

  • Drive the delivery of scalable and reliable infrastructure for running data workloads

  • Partner closely with product, analytics, and engineering teams to understand evolving needs and shape the platform roadmap.

  • Foster a culture of technical excellence, innovation, and continuous improvement.

  • Guide architectural decisions, support design reviews, and provide hands-on technical mentorship.

  • Promote data reliability, cost efficiency, security, and privacy by default across data tooling and practices.

  • Enable a healthy and inclusive team environment through strong people management and coaching.

Your background:

  • 2+ years of engineering management experience leading distributed teams in a high-growth environment.

  • 6+ years of hands-on software engineering experience, ideally in data infrastructure or backend systems.

  • Deep understanding of modern data ecosystems (e.g., Spark, Iceberg/Delta, Databricks, Airflow, Kafka, dbt, DataHub).

  • A strong track record of delivering large-scale, high-impact platform initiatives.

  • Excellent stakeholder management skills and the ability to influence across orgs.

  • A people-first leadership mindset: you're passionate about team health, growth, and performance.

It’s Great If You Also Have

  • Experience in cost optimization, data lifecycle management, or platform observability.

  • Familiarity with modern cloud data architecture (AWS, GCP, or Azure).

  • Prior contributions to open-source data tools or platforms.

Compensation

At Atlassian, we strive to design equitable, explainable,
and competitive compensation programs. To support this goal, the baseline of our range is higher than
that of the typical market range, but in turn we expect to hire most candidates near this baseline.
Base pay within the range is ultimately determined by a candidate's skills, expertise, or experience.
In the United States, we have three geographic pay zones. For this role, our current base pay ranges
for new hires in each zone are:


Zone A: $205,700 - $274,300

Zone B: $185,200 - $246,900

Zone C: $170,800 - $227,700


This role may also be eligible for benefits, bonuses, commissions, and equity.
