The Commerce Design Team

As Head of Design for Commerce, you’ll shape how millions of users discover, buy, and manage Atlassian subscriptions, guiding a team of talented designers to craft seamless, trustworthy, and scalable monetization experiences.

Responsibilities

You’ll lead Atlassian’s Commerce Design team to deliver solutions across buying, billing and payments experiences. Our team partners with stakeholders across the Atlassian portfolio to:

  • Design pricing models, packaging, and subscription flows that align with customer needs and business goals.

  • Shape end-to-end buying, billing, and payment experiences that are transparent, frictionless, and customer-first.

  • Enable scalable, flexible billing and payments infrastructure that balances usability with revenue optimization.

  • Influence Atlassian’s business model evolution, exploring opportunities in free-to-paid funnels, usage based pricing and enterprise pricing strategies.

What you’ll do

  • Lead and mentor a diverse team of product and content designers, fostering craft excellence, professional growth, and a culture of collaboration.

  • Oversee complex design initiatives across pricing, billing, payments, and subscriptions, ensuring high-quality outcomes that drive both customer value and business impact.

  • Work closely with Engineering, Product Management, Research, Go-to-Market and other teams to deliver cohesive, compliant, and scalable commerce experiences.

  • Define and deliver conceptual models and incremental improvements to ensure commerce design systems are consistent, scalable, and reusable across Atlassian products.

  • Champion inclusive design, transparency, and trust in billing, trials, and upgrades, ensuring commerce experiences feel fair and customer-centered.

  • Provide strategic design leadership, tying team outcomes to Atlassian’s long-term revenue strategies and customer success goals.

Key responsibilities

  • Ensure high-quality, outcome-focused deliverables across multiple workstreams.

  • Build and nurture a high-performing, balanced, and diverse design team through coaching, feedback, and mentorship.

  • Drive cross-functional alignment, clearly communicating complex issues and fostering collaboration across teams.

  • Lead the team through change and ambiguity, adapting to evolving priorities while maintaining a focus on consistent delivery.

  • Identify metrics for success, ensuring design solutions continue to deliver customer and business value at scale.

Qualifications

  • 12+ years of experience in product design, with 6+ years in design leadership roles within tech or SaaS.

  • Expertise in commerce, monetization, or subscription-based product design, with proven ability to balance customer experience and revenue goals.

  • Strong track record of managing and growing design teams, with a passion for mentoring and developing diverse talent.

  • Demonstrated ability to influence product strategy and drive alignment across senior leadership and cross-functional teams.

  • Strong communicator with the ability to present, defend, and inspire around design decisions and direction.

  • Experience designing for scaled systems and navigating the complexity of payments, billing, compliance, and global commerce.

  • Collaborative mindset with positive history of working across Engineering, Product Management, Finance, and Research.

  • Comfort leading in ambiguous, evolving problem spaces such as new revenue models or platform-level initiatives.
