Part of the Plato Data Platform organisation within Atlassian Engineering. Plato builds and operates Atlassian's foundational data platform — high-throughput streaming ingestion and MPP query/serving — that powers analytics and data products across Atlassian. Product Data Platform is the only UGC approved data lake in Atlassian. We are the data source behind myriad of use-cases from in-product analytics (Jira/JSM/Confluence and more..), Atlassian Analytics for enterprise data warehouse use-case, ML usecases, Atlassian Twg and Rovo, and the list goes on.

We are hiring Engineering Managers to lead within Plato Data Platform. There are two leadership areas: Ingestion (Flink-based streaming pipelines) and Consumption (StarRocks-based MPP query/serving). This is a full-lifecycle platform team responsible for the reliability, performance, cost and scale of critical data infrastructure.

Responsibilities

Lead a team at the core of Atlassian's data strategy. Deep technical challenges around throughput, latency, cost and reliability at massive scale, with a mandate to grow and shape the team.

  • 10+ years in software engineering with 4+ years managing engineering teams (managing senior ICs and/or managers preferred at M60).

  • Must have led teams building/operating data platform systems in streaming/ingestion (Flink, or Spark as an alternative) and/or MPP query engines (StarRocks, or alternatives such as Trino / Apache Pinot / Apache Doris).

  • Proven track record of operational management of high-scale data platform systems in production — reliability, performance, cost and data-quality/observability.

  • Strong technical depth in distributed systems. kubernetes and large-scale data infrastructure (GCP/AWS).

  • Proven people leadership: hiring, growing, coaching and retaining senior engineers.
